How to Recover from a Long Weekend

We’ve all been there. We workout really hard and eat really really well during the week and then blow it all on the weekend. That’s ok. Don’t feel bad… just follow these simple tips to get you back on track.

Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate
Yes, yes… you probably already know this but drink water! If you spent the weekending drinking too much alcohol or consumed way too much sugar, drink double the amount of water you would normally drink. This will help cleanse the body of all the toxins you took in.

Green Juice, Coconut Water and Emergen-C
Take separately or together. Make sure the green juice is as fresh as you can get it. A nice big dose of greens should help detox your system. The coconut water should have nothing added and will give your body the electrolytes that it is needing and an extra dose of vitamin-c to boost your immune system.

Hit the Gym
Sometimes the last thing we want to do after a rough weekend and a long Monday is go to the gym. But believe me, it will make you feel 10x better. Even if it’s just 30 minutes. Foam roll, stretch, push some weight around and then steam or shower. You’ll be happy you did. If you don’t belong to a gym, go for a walk, ride a bike or do a home workout. long weekend

Don’t Be Hard on Yourself
Unless your digging yourself into the ground every weekend, don’t be hard on yourself. One of the things about working out and eating healthy is so that you can enjoy life! It’s about finding the balance. Reap the rewards of all of your hard work, just don’t over do it.

Go to Bed Early
If the weekend took it out of you, plan on going to bed early Monday night. Our bodies heal themselves at night and a good nights rest is definitely in order if you missed out on some good shut eye over the weekend. If you can, take a nap some where in the middle of the day… and for a bonus… get a little love making session to help you relax (and feel loved of course!)

A healthy lifestyle doesn’t consist of a week full of healthy eating and activities and weekends full of unhealthy madness. It also doesn’t mean never having some fun… it’s about finding balance. Take care of yourself to the best of your ability so that when you do have a “not-so-healthy” day (or weekend) your recovery time is speedy and you will be back to your healthy self in no time!
