California Adventures: Visiting Yosemite, Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks

Nature can have a powerful impact on you, just as it did in my recent trip to some of California’s most beautiful National Parks. My manfriend and I took a trip to Yosemite, Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks for New Years, and where there are hundreds of things to do, the following are a few of the things we did, but worth a mention. So if you are thinking or ever wanted to visit these pristine national parks, add the following to your list. Yosemite National Park is well known, not everyone has visited it but most have heard about this…

How Being in Nature Reminds Us of Our True Nature

“The clearest way into the Universe is through a forest wilderness.” ~ John Muir During the time between Christmas and New Years, my manfriend and I headed to the mountains. I had been craving the forest. I was lusting for the feel of the crisp air on my face and the smell of the snow drenched soil. I needed to hug a tree, knowing my medicine lies within those trees and beneath the starry sky. A break was in order for us both from the high speed craziness of the city. We sat in the pizza hall at Curry Village…

Let Go, Buy Less and Save the World

I had an opportunity to clean out the garage of house I used to live at. At that house, there was a bunch of stuff left behind from past roommates and old crap, I had a U-Haul truck and thought… why not? So after two trips to the dump and one to Goodwill, filling the truck to the top both times, I cleared out the garage. Which is totally awesome in every way except for the fact I felt terrible about throwing so much stuff away. When I was at the dump I couldn’t help but be saddened by the amount of crap people throw…

Simple Pleasure #8: Hugging a Tree

Go on, hug one. It feels good. Do you know what trees do for us. I’m sure you do if you really think about it… they supply us with tasty, yummy oxygen. Yes, but do you know what else? They make life more pleasant. Most of us respond to trees beyond just observing their beauty. We may tend to feel serene, peaceful, restful, and/or tranquil when we are around trees. Trees alter the environment in which we live. They moderate the climate, improve air quality, conserve water, and harbor wildlife. Also they provide us a great way to get a…

Simple Pleasure #62: Klean Kanteens

Best thing ever. I love my kanteen. I literally take it everywhere. I should work for them… I tell everyone to buy one of these darn bottles. I give them to clients, family, and friends as gifts (and also to encourage more water consumption) and I have to say that I have not purchased water in a plastic bottle (maybe just a couple) since 2008! Here is some info on plastic bottles that I got off the Klean Kanteen website – pretty interesting: “When it doesn’t end up in our landfills, most plastic eventually makes its way to our oceans,…

Simple Pleasure #45: The Ocean Kissing My Toes

Really that says it all. I’m so lucky to have the ocean 5 blocks from my house. And every few days I have to visit the ocean and have the water kiss my toes… it brings me great joy… another simple pleasure. The ocean is the sound of the earth breathing, it’s mother natures lungs. Ebb and flow – breathe in and out. Same thing. We must be grateful for what the ocean is for us and what it provides. More than 97% of our planets water is contained in the ocean. Crazy. Some other facts: Water pressure at the deepest…
