California Adventures: 5 Must-Do’s in Joshua Tree National Park

There is no surprise that Dr. Seuss found his inspiration in Joshua Tree. When you drive into the park you feel like you just drove into a scene from one of his books. Joshua Tree is a magical place, filled with vast miles of picturesque landscapes. If you live close enough you can easily visit J-Tree in a day, but I recommend camping for a night or two. The clearness of the night sky is worth it in itself. Before you head to the park, makes sure to stop in town to get all of your supplies (like firewood). Once you…

California Adventures: Visiting Yosemite, Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks

Nature can have a powerful impact on you, just as it did in my recent trip to some of California’s most beautiful National Parks. My manfriend and I took a trip to Yosemite, Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks for New Years, and where there are hundreds of things to do, the following are a few of the things we did, but worth a mention. So if you are thinking or ever wanted to visit these pristine national parks, add the following to your list. Yosemite National Park is well known, not everyone has visited it but most have heard about this…

How Being in Nature Reminds Us of Our True Nature

“The clearest way into the Universe is through a forest wilderness.” ~ John Muir During the time between Christmas and New Years, my manfriend and I headed to the mountains. I had been craving the forest. I was lusting for the feel of the crisp air on my face and the smell of the snow drenched soil. I needed to hug a tree, knowing my medicine lies within those trees and beneath the starry sky. A break was in order for us both from the high speed craziness of the city. We sat in the pizza hall at Curry Village…

California Adventures: Camping at Lopez Lake

After spending a week in the desert for Burning Man I was in need of a much needed trip to a place that housed trees. One of my favorite places to camp in California is at Lopez Lake, which is nestled in the hills and mountains about 10 miles south of San Luis Obispo. I’ve camped there twice before, first time was on my solo road trip and the second was on my way to Lightning in a Bottle. It’s a great place to visit if you have dogs and/or kids, or just if you are just wanting some time in nature….

How to Road Trip with Your Dog

I love my dogs. I love road trips. My dogs + road trips = happiest girl in the world. But it’s not like I can throw my dogs into an over the shoulder bag and roam the countryside. I’ve got two 70 pound balls of pure fluff. Some would think it’s not the easiest to road trip with my crazy mutts but with a little preparation, road tripping with my (your) dog/s (of any size) is a breeze. I’ve had my dogs sense they were teeny tiny pups and they have been driving around in my car for about the length of…

Essential Oil Profile: Argan

Argan oil is not actually an essential oil. It could be considered a carrier oil but for the sake of consistency on the blog posts for the profiles I’m keeping them the same for now. Unlike essential oils, Argan oil can be applied directly to the skin. Argan oil is one of those oils that is really handy to have around. I believe that most, probably all, of us experience some type of skin irritation, sun burn or dry skin at some point AND who doesn’t want to to prevent wrinkles… so it just seems like a no brainer to…

Simple Pleasure #8: Hugging a Tree

Go on, hug one. It feels good. Do you know what trees do for us. I’m sure you do if you really think about it… they supply us with tasty, yummy oxygen. Yes, but do you know what else? They make life more pleasant. Most of us respond to trees beyond just observing their beauty. We may tend to feel serene, peaceful, restful, and/or tranquil when we are around trees. Trees alter the environment in which we live. They moderate the climate, improve air quality, conserve water, and harbor wildlife. Also they provide us a great way to get a…
