Merry and Happy Mean Just That

By Michael R. Mantell, Ph.D. This won’t be another “how to deal with holiday stress” article.  Why? Because, there is no such thing as “holiday stress.” So avoid those articles that start, “The holidays are a stressful time for many.” The only people who feel stress at this, or any, time of the year, are those who CREATE it by the way they THINK about the themselves, others, and their life–past, present and future—in horror-filled, negative, ways. They usually fill their brains with words like, “this is awful,” “it’s terrible,” “it was catastrophic,” “I can’t stand it,” “it should be…

Who is it Really About?

Last weekend I attended the Perform Better Fitness Conference in Long Beach California. It’s a 3-day event featuring awesome speakers well known in the sports & fitness industries. Half the day is lecture the other half is hands on. There are four classes to choose from every hour… it’s like Disneyland for personal trainers. Attachment vs Commitment

I was out to lunch the other day with some amazing friends of mine and we were having a discussion on what it means to be attached to something vs being committed to something. I realized that I say this a lot to my clients as well, especially when talking about goals. If my clients, or myself, or maybe even you find that you are not achieving your goals it could be that you are attached to them rather than being committed… or you could just be lazy and if that’s the case I don’t know what to say. To me being committed means…

Self Created Luck

Do I consider myself lucky? I sure do but I believe luck is self created. We all are lucky, can be lucky and have been lucky. And what some consider lucky others may consider a curse. A lot of folks have said to me “oh you’re so lucky you get to go to France” and yes, yes I am lucky I got to go to France but their statement, in some cases, is followed up with “I wish I was that lucky” or something similar to those lines. In my personal opinion I believe we create our luck. I mean…
