Essential Oil Profile: Argan

Argan oil is not actually an essential oil. It could be considered a carrier oil but for the sake of consistency on the blog posts for the profiles I’m keeping them the same for now. Unlike essential oils, Argan oil can be applied directly to the skin. Argan oil is one of those oils that is really handy to have around. I believe that most, probably all, of us experience some type of skin irritation, sun burn or dry skin at some point AND who doesn’t want to to prevent wrinkles… so it just seems like a no brainer to…

DIY: Anti Wrinkle Serum

Whoa… did she just say ‘do-it-myself anti-wrinkle serum’? I sure did ladies and gentlemen… yes guys, you can use this too. With all this Botox and other BS around to help us look younger… I turn to nature. Nature has everything we need to stay looking and feeling young. I also started using natural oils to make my own beauty products because I had a slight skin condition on my face that just would not go away, ever since I’ve been using this stuff… I don’t have a problem anymore. I’m telling you, this stuff is amazing. If you go…

Stop Working Now

By: Michael R. Mantell, Ph.D. The other day after a terrific workout, I was leaving the gym and a friend offered the standard, “Hey, have a great day at work!” Much to his surprise, I responded as I often do to that type of comment, “Oh, I don’t work anymore.” “WHAT!!! You retired?” he shouted.  “No of course not, but I don’t work—what I do is sheer joy and pleasure.”  He looked at me like I was nuts. I looked back at him and suggested he try not working and finding joy and pleasure in his daily activities. He looked…

Attachment vs Commitment

I was out to lunch the other day with some amazing friends of mine and we were having a discussion on what it means to be attached to something vs being committed to something. I realized that I say this a lot to my clients as well, especially when talking about goals. If my clients, or myself, or maybe even you find that you are not achieving your goals it could be that you are attached to them rather than being committed… or you could just be lazy and if that’s the case I don’t know what to say. To me being committed means…

Simple Pleasure #8: Hugging a Tree

Go on, hug one. It feels good. Do you know what trees do for us. I’m sure you do if you really think about it… they supply us with tasty, yummy oxygen. Yes, but do you know what else? They make life more pleasant. Most of us respond to trees beyond just observing their beauty. We may tend to feel serene, peaceful, restful, and/or tranquil when we are around trees. Trees alter the environment in which we live. They moderate the climate, improve air quality, conserve water, and harbor wildlife. Also they provide us a great way to get a…

Simple Pleasure #43: Avocados

Oh those avocados. They are one of my favorite fruits. Yep, if you didn’t know already, avocados are considered a fruit. Are you ready to hear more facts about avocados? They are insanely good for you. They’ve got a bad rap (just like coconuts) but I’m out to change that. On most days I’ll eat a whole avocado a day (you can imagine I go through a lot of avocados each week but well worth it). Ok so here’s the facts people… Way to go San Diego! – San Diego County is the Avocado Capital of the U.S., producing 60…
