What a Personal Trainer Eats: Day 5 of 7
This post is a follow up to a previous post. If you are just now reading this you might want to start with the first post.
Coffee and an Acai Bowl
I didn’t feel like making breakfast this morning so I just picked up an acai bowl from a cafe down the street. Acai bowls happen to be part of my 100 Simple Pleasures. The acai was blended with almond milk and apple juice and topped with hemp granola, bananas, strawberries, shredded coconut and slivered almonds.
Tip: Acai is packed full goodness. It’s literally a superfood. It contains high levels of essential fatty acids. It’s high in antioxidants, and dietary fiber. My favorite: it contains nineteen different amino acids necessary for building healthy proteins throughout the body! Plus so much more. The stuff is wonderful for you. Try it in a smoothie or get yourself an acai bowl!
Bobo Coconut Oat Bar
Yeah… I ate another one today, same as yesterday, right before I worked out. I just can’t help it… it’s so good!
Tip: Sorry, I have no new tip for you on this one. Same as yesterday. Bars make a quick and easy healthy snack in a pinch. Find one you love and keep them handy.
Fresh Organic Mango
When I went to the market to pick up a few things for lunch and couldn’t help but swoop a mango. I chopped it up and sprinkled a little chili seasoning on it and ate it while I prepared lunch.
Tip: When eating fruit it is best to eat it by itself, before a meal. Fruit digests fast and if it’s mixed with other foods like carbs or proteins it’s hard on the digestive system. The fruit sometimes can ferment in your system causing gas and bloating. I know it’s hard not to mix it sometimes but if you can, eat it by itself, at least a half hour before a meal.
Tofu Fried Rice Lettuce Wraps
These were yummy. I cooked a cup of brown rice in the rice cooker. While the rice was cooking I chopped up half a white onion, zucchini, carrot, and mushrooms. Once the rice was close to being done I sautéed the onion until cooked and then mixed in the other veggies. Cooked for just a couple minutes then added diced up organic, non-gmo tofu. Cooked another few minutes then added the rice, minced garlic, bragg’s amino acids, a splash of rice vinegar. Mixed it all up and scooped it into leafs if butter lettuce and topped with fresh squeeze of lime and avocado.
Tip: Home cooked meals are the BOMB!!! Cook and prepare meals as much as possible at home. You know what’s going in your food and you create a better relationship with your food. You enjoy it on a different level and it’s much easier to manage calories. Lettuce wraps are the way to go. Especially if you like tacos or things wrapped up in a wrap. Here are two recipes you can try: BLT Corn Salad Lettuce Wraps & Tofu Veggie Lettuce Wraps.
Coconut Bliss Chocolate Bar
After lunch we had a healthy version of a fudgesicle. Made with coconut milk and sweetened with agave. Also vegan, soy free, dairy free, gluten free and low glycemic. If you are interested the company name is Coconut Bliss, they make really good ice cream too for you ice cream lovers out there.
Tip: It is possible to rid yourself of sugar cravings. That would be a whole other post. If you do find that you crave sweets or enjoy a dessert now and then, there are healthy opinions out there. Just do your research and don’t over indulge. Lower the amount of sugar the better of course but also look for desserts that are gluten free, vegan, low calories, or just stick with fruit. Or you can always share. A handful of dark chocolate covered almonds is a good choice too.
Sushi and Miso Soup
Jonathan decided on sushi for dinner as you can see. I ended up with miso soup, a Spring Fresh Roll and some Taco Poke. Couldn’t finish it all but what I didn’t eat Jon did. 🙂
Tip: Sushi can be a really healthy choice when eating out. As long as you avoid the fried and baked rolls. To take it one step further you can order rolls without the rice. That way you are left with all veggies and fish.
That’s all I got for you for day 5. The weekend days are up next! I’m hoping to go out for brunch this weekend which is one of my favorite things, plus a trip to the farmers market. Stay tuned…
